Beating Summertime Hair Blues

TIPS FOR CURLY OR FRIZZY HAIR

My own mane requires tons of goo to deal with its outrageous curls and unmanageable frizz. Here are some tips to combat those humid hair blues. I use a gel instead of mousse for my naturally curly locks since mousse lets your hair grow in volume. A soft gel - meaning something that does not add stiffness to your hair is often the best, you want to work with your curls not freeze them. Then there's dryness...that's your conditioner plays a huge role. You need something with a lot of moisture, but that won't weigh you down. I know it's tricky, but once you find the right products you're on your way to salon style everyday! The last step is: air dry or blow dry? Air dry your hair if the weather allows - or for a fuller look try attaching a diffuser to your hairdryer. By diffusing curls at the root, you add fullness while coaxing your ringlets into submission.

TIPS FOR STRAIGHT HAIR

If you need to blow-dry your hair everyday, watch out! You don't want to damage those delicate follicles. If your hair is NATURALLY STRAIGHT AND THICK, lock in moisture with a good conditioner so you don't turn your luscious locks into straw. It's also smart to use a gel specifically formulated for blow drying or straightening hair. Finally, use a shiner or hair polish to add sheen and gloss to your lovely tresses. The regimen is much the same FOR PEOPLE WITH FINE OR LIMP HAIR, with extra attention paid to conditioner selection. Ask a stylist who you trust to recommend something that won't weigh your hair down or look greasy. And, don't use leave-in conditioner unless you like looking like a drowned rat! Blowing your straight hair out from the roots adds volume, and using a round metal brush is key to giving yourself salon style. For really fine hair, avoid the shiner entirely because it makes hair too soft and limp.
